High Producvity Output with Spin Welding Technique
Generally used along with thermoplastics and other metals parts, friction welding technique is heavily utilized in heavy industrial like automotive and aviation industry. There is no melting occurs during the process, as heat is directed onto the interface which creates a heat zone in between.
This technique has known of to be of several advantages. One being welders doesn’t need to clean and prepare the surfaces before welding process, which save extensive time in production line where bulk volume comes in place.
Apart from welding same type of metals, this technique could also be used to joint together two different type of metals. For example, aluminum and high strength steel are welded together for uses in aviation industry where high precision level is required, to achieve highest safety standard.
Common friction welding methods includes - Spin Welding, Vibration Welding, and Ultrasonic Welding.
Spin welding, being an uncomplicated technique compare to the other process, requires much lower costs and relatively easier when utilize for production processes. Apart from simplicity in usage, other core advantages for spin welding is high weld quality with wide range of possible metals that could be joined together using this technique.
For industrial usage, the cost factors is also one of the main factor for spin welding technique to be widely adopted, as spin welding is capable of high output, even when heavy metals welding is involved. There process takes mostly several seconds to complete, and no further or additional medium material is needed for the process.
During the process in spin welding, one of the part to be welded is rotated ( or spins , as the term implies ) at high speed, and get pressed against the other part that stays stationary. When friction occurs between these two parts, heat is generated causing both the surfaces are melted. When the spinning motion is stopped, pressures is in forced to ensure both surfaces stay joined and until they are solidified. Depending on the material , rotational velocity are adjusted to achieve the ‘melt temperatures’ for the surfaces, which often varies for various metals.
In common applications, spin welding technique is widely used in assembly line for thermal containers, polyethylene bottles, end packaging and much more.
